- A cleaning crew discovered a dead fetus on a plane in a hangar at LaGuardia Airport Tuesday, sources confirm to FOX 46 Charlotte.

The fetus was between three to six months along.

A cleaning crew found the fetus in the bathroom of the plane, which had landed in NY on Monday night from Charlotte, North Carolina, according to a high-ranking police source.

The plane was being held at Terminal B while the medical examiner's office responded to the scene.

Small plane crashes in Switzerland, several people killed
The company's chief executive Kurt Waldmeier told the AFP news agency the plane had undergone a maintenance inspection in July. Twenty people have died after a World War II vintage aircraft crashed into a mountainside in eastern Switzerland, police say.

The fetus was found at about 7 a.m. on an American Airlines flight that had landed Monday night from Charlotte.

American Airlines has confirmed an investigation is underway, and released the following statement. "Please contact law enforcement for additional information".

Airport officials this morning tweeted about possible delays, but did not make mention of the reason.

Sources also told CBS that the Port Authority Police and Queens' District Attorney's office are investigating to find out who is the pregnant woman in question.
